Lost Creek Kennel

AKC Rottweilers and American Staffordshire Terriers

Welcome to Lost Creek Kennel.

We are a small country kennel located in Northeastern Oklahoma. We started out breeding Rottweilers in 1996 and expanded our family to include our AmStaffs in 2000. We carefully selected our breeding stock from not only good bloodlines but for size, temperament, structure, and overall personality as well. We continually strive to improve on our own bloodlines and to produce puppies who are better than the generation before. Several of our puppies have gone on to show in obedience, conformation, and agility and have been very successful in each of these events. We are very proud of our puppies and their accomplishments and are sure you will be too.

We are very concerned about the welfare and general well being of every puppy that we place in a new home and may inquire about any puppy/dog at any time and may ask for pictures. Please do not be offended by this as it doesn’t mean we suspect neglect or abuse. We are simply curious how the puppy is doing and the kind of personality the puppy/dog has. We are very grateful to all of the families who have kept in contact with us after adopting a puppy and for all the pictures and up-dates we have received.

We reserve the right not to sell accordingly and do try really hard to place the right puppy with the right family. We encourage prospective new parents to ask questions and to do research on their prospective breed before actually buying or adopting a puppy or dog, it is vital not only for the new puppy or dog but for the new family to ensure many years of happy and healthy lives together. The AKC is a great place to start with for research and to help choose the breed that is right for you. Always remember that if you have a question please ask. That is what any breeder should be there for. No question is ever silly or not worth asking.

Every puppy sold by us comes with a two-year health guarantee against genetic defects. We encourage everyone to have their puppies OFA certified at two years of age and if at that time any genetic or life-threatening defect is discovered the we ask that you contact us right away. We ask this not only to replace the affected dog but because it is very important for us to know about these things so we can evaluate and change our breeding program to help prevent this from happening in the future. Your local vet should be able to help you with the OFA process and can give you information on the tests available and the test needed most for your breed.

As well as a two year guarantee against genetic defects, we also give lifetime support on our puppies. This means that at any time during the course of the dogs life, you have a question or comment please feel free to contact us about it. As I stated before, no question is to embarrassing or silly to ask. Asking questions about our pets behavior and general well-being is how we gain knowledge of our breeds and how we can best protect not only our pets, but our family, friends, and neighbors.

We fully recommend that ALL puppies receive at least their basic obedience training. This can be invaluable later on, especially if you own a “bully” breed, as they tend to be a little headstrong and stubborn at times. We recommend that you socialize your puppies and dogs with as many other dogs and people as possible. We strongly urge you to start this while your pet is still a puppy and to continue socializing as much as possible even when grown. You and your pet will both be grateful for this later on.

If you are a Rottie owner, we recommend you give your pet a “job” as early as possible. Even if it is just as simple as fetching a ball. Rottweilers, are more content and happy when they have something to stimulate their brain. This is the reason they make such great working dogs. We actually use our dogs to pull sleds and carts and they absolutely love it.

If you have chosen an AmStaff as your breed then we recommend that you keep the puppy/dog as involved with your family and everyday life as possible, as the AmStaff can become depressed and a little unruly when left to their own devices. AmStaffs are most at home with the family. And when treated as a member of the family are some of the most loyal, courageous, and loving dogs in the world.

Something else to consider when you adopt a new pet is: What if my pet gets lost or stolen? We recommend that you microchip your pet as soon as possible. If the breeder can have the pet micro chipped before you take the puppy/dog home with you, then great. I would strongly suggest letting them. If the breeder does not offer microchips then you can contact your local vet or even your local shelter about having your dog chipped. You can also find information about microchips on the internet. It is just that much more added security for you and your loved pets.

Remember, adopting a puppy/dog is a lifetime commitment, much like raising children. So the more we know about our chosen breed and what the breed is capable of, the better we can prepare ourselves for such a commitment and maybe even to become a breed advocate for your chosen breed. I hope that this letter has proven to be of value for you in coming to know us as breeders, and has encouraged you to research all the possibilities of the breed you are most interested in.

If for any reason you cannot keep your puppy /dog, please contact us and arrangements will be made to return the dog to us or to place the puppy/dog with a loving family or if a temporary placement is needed to place the puppy/dog with a loving foster family. Under no circumstances should a puppy/dog be sold, given away, or euthanized without contacting us first.
